CONNECTICUT HAS FOUR NATIONAL CHAMPIONS

American Forests sponsors The National Register of Big Trees, and the 2004-05 Register has these Connecticut trees:

Sugar Maple (Acer saccharum) in Lyme

Butternut (Juglans cinerea) in Chester

Tamarack (Larix laricina) in Coventry

One-seed Hawthorn (Crataegus mongyna) in Old Saybrook (co-champ)

All four trees are growing in residential landscapes on private property.
